Padre Kino - an afternoon of sacred music in Sierra Vista

On Sunday, March 17, the Cathedral Schola showcased some of my music compositions, including three pieces commissioned by the Kino Heritage Society in honor of Father Eusebius Kino, the Apostle of the Pimería Alta and known as the “Padre on Horseback.” The event was hosted by Msgr. Greg Adolf, Pastor of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Parish.

The gathering commenced with a bried introduction on Father Kino, followed by an award presentation, leading into the performance of pieces such as the Magnificat, Ave Verum Corpus, O Lux Beata, and Litany of Loreto. The venue's splendor and superb acoustics enhanced the experience.

Collaborating with talented singers, some pieces were accompanied by piano, like the Ave María beautifully sung by Arianna Campbell. Meanwhile, others, such as my Quo Vadis for organ solo, reverberated through the marvelous Möller pipe organ, skillfully restored by Grahame Davis of Pipe Organ Artisans, Inc. from Tucson, AZ.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional singers who brought these compositions to life: Emily, Arianna, Rebekah, Dr. Chris, Betsy, Lisa, Michael, Dennis, Daniel, Tommy, and Zhixiang.

A special acknowledgment goes to Msgr. Greg, Michelle, Maryann, Rebecca, Kathleen, Gonzalo, and John for their unwavering support and seamless coordination of this memorable performance.
